Description
Flaky, handmade butter pastry holds a flavorful filling, full of chewy dates and the naturally buttery flavor of walnuts and almonds.
A touch of French cognac brandy sets this tart apart and makes it perfect for a celebration. Cognac is produced in the commune of Cognac, France, and is characterized by aging at least two years in French oak barrels from Limousin or Tronçais.
The natural depth and sweetness of cognac is right at home in this rich tart, and it’s the perfect treat for nut lovers.

Ingredients
The dates are traditional Middle-Eastern and Mediterranean products, which have been present in the cuisine for centuries. Thanks to the Mediterranean climate in the region the dates could be consumed the whole year long. It is for this reason that the regional food includes a lot of dates, such as the case with the Dates and Nuts tart. Although the exact origin of the tart is unknown, the desert has had a lot of popularity in Northern African Muslim countries such as Algeria and Morocco. It has been populary consumed during the month of Ramadan (the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, observed by the Muslim community worldwide as a month of fasting to commemorate the first revelation of Quran to the Prophet). This is largely due to the large amount of nutrients in the fruit, which serve as a source of energy for a long period of time for people who fast. Dates are traditionally used to break the fast during Iftar (breakfast, first consumption of food after the sunset), but are also enjoyed throughout the night with the small portions of Arabic coffee. In France the dessert gained its popularity in the 1950s and 1960s mostly in the Southern French provinces, where the dates were in abundance. Today we may find the Dates and Nuts Tart in every French boulangerie, as it is enjoyed by people outside of the Mediterranean and Middle-Eastern region.
