For many gourmands, cheesecake is a cake made from cream cheese that is owed to New Yorkers. However the story of cheesecake starts much earlier. It is said that cheesecake already existed in ancient Greece and the Roman Empire and then later it was brought to England, where it became very popular. It was not until the nineteenth century that cheesecake made its way to New York with the big wave of migration from the United Kingdom. The English men brought the classical recipe, which was later modified by using Philadelphia Cream Cheese in 1872 in New York. The New York cheesecake consists of the paste, obtained by mixing powdered biscuits with melted butter, and the filling, made with Philadelphia Cream Cheese, sugar, eggs, lemon zest, crème fraîche and vanilla extract.
